Whether paving stones, designer garden benches or channel components, whether tunnel or bridge components, columns or masts: Precast concrete elements are ubiquitous. During production, a consistently high mix homogeneity is required batch after batch. The finished component must then fully fulfill its function and offer the desired aesthetics. Depending on the concrete mixture, batch size and customer requirements, both planetary mixers (BPX) and twin-shaft batch mixer (DKX) are used for this purpose.
Both mixing systems are high-performance mixers that achieve significantly better mixing quality than ring trough mixers or even free-fall mixers and are suitable for demanding formulations. The choice between a twin-shaft mixer and a planetary mixer depends on the specific requirements of the project in question. Both have their strengths and represent the optimum solution depending on the area of application:
Selection criteria | BPX | DKX |
---|---|---|
Production volume |
Small to medium quantities | Medium to very large quantities |
Grain size |
Fine-grained | Fine to coarse-grained |
Outlets |
Up to 4 outlets | Max. 2 outlets due to split slider |
Installation |
Low overall height; more surface area | More height; smaller surface area |
Partial batches |
Up to 25% nominal batch | Up to 10% nominal batch |
Mixing energy |
Highly turbulent | Gentle loading |
A mixing plant with BHS twin-shaft batch mixers proved itself in a major project completed by Europoles GmbH & Co. KG that involved the production of high-strength concrete. Europoles delivered 618 supports made from white, high-strength spun concrete for the third largest mosque in the world. The pole manufacturer, based in Neumarkt, Germany, produced the concrete for the columns, which are up to 34 meters high and weigh up to 34 metric tons, with twin-shaft batch mixers from BHS-Sonthofen’s DKX range. For this purpose, the existing BHS-Sonthofen mixing plant was modified and upgraded.
The simultaneous rotary movements of the planetary carrier both around its own axis of the mixing tools and around the central axis of the mixing trough produce a thorough and uniform mixing of the material. The overlapping rotary movements prevent dead zones and produce an extremely homogeneous mixture:
The mixing tools ensure intensive relative movements in the entire mixer interior as well as perfect mixing:
For frequent recipe changes, hot temperatures and to maintain value, we recommend equipping the mixer with an integrated high-pressure cleaning system. This is available for both the planetary mixer (BPX) and the twin-shaft batch mixer (DKX).
The mixer can be cleaned quickly and easily when changing recipes and before production breaks. Material carry-over into the next batch is prevented.
Operating personnel are relieved of constantly recurring tasks, occupational safety is increased and valuable working time is saved by manual cleaning.
Other special features: adapted speed through the use of frequency converters, precise moisture and temperature measurement, torque measurement (DKX) and water dosing.
